Eclipse, Vampires, Twilight Theme Party AND a Drink Guy Signature Cocktail!
Eclipse! Vampires, werewolves, romance and adventure! The Drink Guy team is counting down!
Well, Lynn is counting down. Glenn is creating a signature cocktail for the occasion, likely so he can get through it all and not smack her.
Hey! Lynn here!! Twilight rocks!! OK, yes, I am a fan…OK, I am addicted. And your point is?
Just because I spent an hour using four different programs to create…this!!
How cool is that!?!? Yah, OK, if any of you know of a Twilight Addiction Support Group, send me the information…Cheryl and I will go, right after we see Eclipse!!! Sandra, do you need us to pick you up on our way? Of course we should likely pick up Diana and Sharon and Tammy and Christine and Louise and and and too lol!
Alright, back to reality.
If you are a fan, or know any, and you want an excuse for a party, Eclipse is a great one!
A Twilight theme party can be as simple or as complex as you want to make it.
A few movie posters, the movie soundtrack, and some Vampire themed snacks and beverages, to a full blown costume/decorations/impress your friends with the food and drinks blow out!
Vampire costumes and decor open up a huge range of possibilities. Creepy bats, spiders, wooden stakes all work. Vampire blood, capes, coffins, red and black everywhere. Let your imagination run free!
Of course, lest we forget, Twilight is above all else, a love story.
Red roses, sprinkled petals, silver Volvos and the soft strains of DeBussy playing in the background…perhaps your Eclipse party will be a celebration for two, and maybe, just maybe, you wise gentlemen with a Twilight fan as the love of your life will take the opportunity to wine and dine her Twilight style.
Where ever you fall in the Twilight stratosphere, I hope you enjoy an excuse for some fun!
Now I’m going to call Glenn to pretty please mix up an Eclipse for me, grab my well worn copy of The Twilight Saga:Eclipse, and happily relax in Forks for the evening!
Vancouver Breweries…yes, despite the fact that I (Lynn) am not a beer drinker, reading about the specialty microbreweries in Western Canada and the process used, even my interest was peaked! (Especially when I found out there is such a thing as Chocolate Beer!)
Of course, 5 days in Vancouver was not nearly enough, and packing in sight-seeing, wineries and time enjoying the Drink Guy’s wonderful family out there, left us choosing one brewery to tour, for this trip anyway!
Our choice was Granville Island Brewing , a local establishment that advertises themselves as “Canada’s First Microbrewery”. Located in the heart of beautiful Granville Island, a popular tourist area, here’s what they have to say:
“When Granville Island Brewing opened our doors in 1984, we believed that British Columbia was ready for a premium, natural, unpasteurized beer similar to the famous German pilsners. And with our first release that same year, Island Lager, that belief was confirmed.”
So a GIB tour it was, my very first brewery tour! Listening to our tour guide explain the process was fascinating, and realizing how much goes into the creation of beer, eye opening!
We actually got to taste two types of barley grains (yuck!) and smell the raw hops (double yuck!). We got to climb around and look into the vats, and ask questions of our very personable and knowledgeable guide, Bob.
But of course, the highlight for most was the taste testing after!
Bob got us settled in the Taproom, and proceeded to pour out six different varieties of beers to try. Since I only tried one, and I am far from a connoisseur, I’ll let Glenn fill you in on the specifics of each!
However, for the Drink Guy fans and for comic relief in the video, our Drink Guy did deem it necessary for me to try one of the samples, the GIBitters.
The GIBitters is exactly that, bitter! Since there is video footage here of both Glenn and I, and friends we met on the tour trying it, you will quickly figure out that none of us were big fans. And in fact Glenn and his new found friend did require some encouragement from me to get it down! However, a bottle was brought home for Rob, who LOVED it! Likening it to a real IPA, he said if you are a bitters fan, you will love this beer. The limited release for May, get yours while supplies last!
Educational and entertaining, I highly recommend the Granville Island Brewing tour. Running daily, it was a great introduction to the beer making process, and lots of fun! So pull up a stool and enjoy!
Stay tuned for Glenn’s specifics on the taste testing!
The World Cup of Soccer, or as we real people like to call it “FOOTBALL,” is once again upon us.
This month long sporting event, played every four years, is easily the most watched, most exciting and biggest sporting event to be displayed on the world stage.
The world cup is an event unlike any other sporting event. Football, or soccer is the most popular sport on the planet. What I mean by this is simple; whereas baseball is America’s pastime, it’s not too popular the world over.
There are other worldwide event’s for any number of sports, but none grabs our attention like ‘The World Cup.’
Qualifying for the football, or soccer tournament is an extensive process. Matches and smaller football tournaments are played in divisions that are broken up and scattered around the globe. Winning is crucial in the four years that lead up to the world cup.
Ranking means nothing, it’s not always the top 32 teams that make the stage. Only the host nation, this year being South Africa, is guaranteed a spot in the world cup.
So who will win is anybodies guess, but here is my predictions for the top two in each division.
Group A-Mexico and France Group B-Argentina and Nigeria Group C-England and USA Group D-Germany and Australia
Group E-Denmark and Netherlands Group F-Italy and Paraguay Group G-Brazil and Portugal Group H-Spain and Switzerland
So sit back, grab a drink, and enjoy the show. It’s going to be a wild world cup event.
A Road Trip involves hopping in a car and heading in any direction that tickles your fancy. Well we did one better, hopped in a plane, headed to Vancouver, and then got in a killer Volvo C70 convertible for our road trip.
The sites we saw, the things we did, and of course, the alcohol we drank. Wouldn’t be a Drink Guy road trip without booze.
The first night involved a juicy steak dinner, cooked to perfection by our host for the weekend, Miss Velvet Steele. This was accompanied by a nice Shiraz, recommended by one of our fans, but only able to purchase in Vancouver. Needless to say we drank it all, or Lynn did, and didn’t think to bring one back with us.
The next day the road trip commenced, well actually we took a water taxi to Granville Island Brewing. Where we first spied Mark Fossen, a street musician with style, and talent.
Here we shopped and took a tour of the Brewery with Bob as our guide. This was followed by an always welcome, taste test of what beer the Brewery has to offer.
Next day we got the car and headed to the wineries. Sanduz Estate Wines was first on the list. Where we chatted and sampled the many fruit wines they have to offer. Absolutely awesome.
Then our road trip headed to Lulu Island Winery where Mike, the owner, was more than happy to show us around. His knowledge, charm and wit made for a very entertaining tour of the winery. The Ice wines made here are know as far away as China, and after tasting, I understand why.
This was just a drop in the bucket for B.C. and we will definitely have to make a few more trips for beer and wine.
So whether your into wine or beer, it’s worth a trip to Vancouver, B.C. just to tour a winery or brewery.
We will go into further detail later about each winery and brewery and what they have to offer as I did bring six bottles home.
A lady drinks, generally, something a little more sophisticated or classy, compared to what a guy drinks.
It’s more about style when it comes to what ladies drink. With wine being the drink of choice here, red or white.
There is no favoritism when it comes to wine. All a matter of preference. And unless they know you well, a lady drinks white wine as it doesn’t stain the teeth or ruin your cloths if it happens to spill.
A ladies drink also tends to be a little more colorful and flavorful. Cocktails and martinis are a close second to the wine. Having more alcohol per drink this isn’t meant to be chugged, but sipped and enjoyed.
Although, as we all know, once you get to that certain point we just can’t seem to get them down fast enough, ladies or men.
Now mixed drinks seem to be on equal ground with guys when it comes to what a lady drinks. This one is somewhere in the middle for both sexes. Where beer is #1 for guys and wine is #1 for the ladies, this is something that both will drink.
On par with the men again is a shooter, as this is for celebration or just to catch up. Proper etiquette states that no one is allowed to turn down a shooter if someone else is paying.
All this aside and although you don’t see it much, the best thing is when a lady drinks beer straight out of the bottle. I’ll let you get the idea. Now if they can sit down on Sunday and watch the game with us, we would love them forever.
There is one unfair advantage when it comes to a ladies drink and it’s called “Ladies Nite!” This is meant to bring the guys out, as we all know, where the ladies are, the guys will follow. Free entrance, free drinks, or half price, we’ll be there.
Aren’t we suckers.
So cheers to what a lady drinks….Glenn, The Drink Guy
