Home Bar Series, Decorating Your New Addition!
Your Home Bar Theme, Time To Decorate!
Decorating your home bar can be a lot of fun, or a lot of frustration, depending on how clear your vision is!
Your home bar look can be classy or classic, modern or rustic…it all depends on your personal tastes.
So how do you decorate your home bar so that it really reflects your personality while at the same time creating a fun, relaxing environment?
If you take a moment to think about places you have seen that you liked, this can give you a good starting point.
Think about restaurants and clubs or pubs you have gone to and felt immediately comfortable at, and other peoples home bars that you enjoyed and stood out to you in a positive way.
Perhaps the sports lounge feeling is your style, or maybe the upscale downtown look suits you better? The dance club, the English pub, island tropics or the western style look are all popular decorating choices, and each can be tweaked to suit you.
There are many aspects to consider when decorating, and some of the big ones we have or will expand on in separate articles in this series.
Appliances, lighting, and entertainment choices such as television and stereo all can play a part in your bar decor scheme, so keep those things in mind.
We will also be doing a full article on stocking your new addition, so glassware will be covered there, but be aware that your style of glassware is also part of your bar decor theme.
Two of the main aspects that create your look is your bar top and your seating.
Stone, tile, laminate, wood, glass and brick are just some of the materials being used these days. Each of these creates a different bar decor style for your home bar. I’ve even seen a show on an “IBar” top that was all interactive touch screens!
Your seating will not only be a big visual aspect of your home bar, but will also go a long way to determine how comfortable you and your patrons are.
There are so many different types of stools available, from classic styling to rustic log, and even fun and whimsical!
It’s all a matter of choosing your look, then finding a stool that is comfortable and fits within your budget.
If space allows, it’s nice to have some other seating in your home bar area as well to facilitate a larger group and/or separate conversations.
Other bar decor elements are such things as bar signs, mirrors or art work, coasters and knick knacks. Check in for Part Two of “Decorating Your Home Bar” for more on these!

Hi There…I found your article right on target. We are former owners of a large restaurant and bar on the east coast of Canada. We’ve heard time and time again that the first thing a person notices is the decor. They may not notice every detail right away, just the overall look. But this first impression is what makes them want to sit down and enjoy a friendly drink or just chat about whatever. It’s all about the atmosphere and comfort. A well thought out bar will give you and your friends a lot of enjoyment and friendly conversation and memories for a long time.
