The Perfect Home Bar: Step Two, Appliances.
All The Appliances You Should Need
What are the right appliances for your home bar? This can make or break the final look of your set up. Now that you have the location picked out, you need to focus on what appliances you will need to compliment your bar.
Glass Beer Fridge
Buying something that doesn’t fit after all your hard work, will certainly make you pull your hair out. Take some time to think about what you will need and incorporate this into the design of your home bar. Everyone will have a rough idea as to what it should look like, but try to visualize it with the appliances to get a better feel as to where and what your measurements should be.
One of the main appliances to think about is a fridge, as this will hold all your beer, mixes, garnishes and wines. Preferably a fridge with glass doors as it’s nice to be able to see what’s available. Try two smaller ones, one fridge for wine and the other for beer. Place them about waist height off the ground, somewhere on the back wall. Less bending and easier to see for the guests.
The next appliance for your home bar should be a mini dishwasher, placed out of site from your guests. But generally close to the sink you will be installing. No one wants to be running to the kitchen in the middle of a party cause you don’t have enough clean glasses. Try to find a dishwasher that is quiet as to not drown out your conversations.
A blender will come in handy for all those mixed cocktails. Something sturdy and durable, glass, not plastic. Glass stays clean, whereas plastic will eventually get scratched and unsightly. Nothing fancy, you don’t need ten different speeds, high and low is enough. This appliance only needs a plug in and can go anywhere needed.
I would also recommend a small freezer, placed under your home bar and out of site. Perfect for all the ice needed, ice cream for those blended cocktails and if you really want to impress your guests, FROSTED MUGS for beer.
Specialty Coffee Maker
A fridge, dishwasher and blender are the main stay of the appliances you will need for your home bar, but others do come to mind if you have the space and the money.
Here is a short list of appliances wanted, but not necessarily needed for your home bar: an ice maker for more convenience, a draft fridge to hold a keg, and a coffee/espresso machine for specialty coffees.
If I missed any, let me know.

A nice addition if you have the space and the financial resources is to add a second dishwasher. This is becoming quite popular in high end homes these days, allowing the rotation of “clean and dirty” dishes to remain in the dishwasher for use, instead of having to unload and load each cycle…saves on cupboard space as well!
